Proverbs – written as recently as 2,700 years ago – speaks DIRECTLY to your financial well-being.
In fact… it gives you the prescription for how to manage your finances.
Get ready. It’s time for me to put on my preacher hat.
In my quiet time, I have been digging into Proverbs.
Throughout my study, I have noticed 4 major lessons as it relates to our money and finances.
1. The value of diligence and hard work
“Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.” – Proverbs 10:4
This aligns with what the Lord has been teaching me elsewhere, something along the lines of:
“The best way to achieve success is consistent micro-actions repeated over a long duration.”
I believe this applies to family life, health, wealth, and our relationship with our Heavenly Father
2. The importance of wise saving and planning
“The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.” – Proverbs 21:20
This is clearly advocating for an extended time horizon.
How do the decisions you make today affect you 20 years from now?
Will future you thank current you?
Save early, build an emergency fund, pay off that debt, maybe even do a little investing.
3. The dangers of debt
“The borrower is slave to the lender.” – Proverbs 22:7
Let’s be honest, you’ve heard every possible opinion on this verse.
Next.
4. The dangers of shortcuts
“Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.” – Proverbs 13:11
It’s the tortoise and the hare!
There’s no such thing as a true get rich quick scheme.
Just hard work.
Have patience, discipline, and promote honest business practices.
